Mardi Gras 2027 Float Headpieces
Thank you for your interest in float headpieces! Crafty Kat is currently accepting orders for Mardi Gras 2027 for parading krewes, not just Cleopatra! Please read the information below thoroughly, and fill out this quick contact form, and I'll get back to you ASAP! Because of time restraints and demand for Mardi Gras 2027, I expect to only take up to 5 commissions for float headpieces, and the bulk of the work will be done from summer to early fall. Thank you for your understanding!
Float Headpiece Information:
Crafty Kat will take care of ALL elements of float headpieces to make it as stress free possible. This includes headpiece design, supply ordering, construction, and delivery before parade day. The process is negotiable based on the needs of your float--some floats have a design they just wanted duplicated, some would rather the prep work be done and they have a group workshop to assemble, etc. However, simply for ease of payment and logistics, I will ALWAYS take care of the supply ordering. There is NEVER an upcharge on supplies, and I can provide a full budget breakdown and receipts upon request.
The minimum cost of headpieces is $30 per headpiece. This includes materials and labor, but the total cost will fluctuate based on the complexity and materials required for each design. The final price will be set once a design has been completed and approved by the float lieutenant. On average, a Crafty Kat headpiece has ranged from $30-$60 per headpiece. The minimum price has increased this year due to the rising costs of supplies.
For 2027, the ordering process will differ slightly to give lieutenants more payment flexibility. An initial nonrefundable fee of $100 will be assessed to account for design time and supplies for the headpiece prototype. This fee will be factored in to the overall cost of your headpieces and credited towards your final balance due. Once a design is finalized and a cost is agreed upon, a 25% deposit will need to be paid within 60 days to hold your place in line. This should give lieutenants more time to begin collecting float fees, and show their members what they're paying for with a completed prototype. I calculate the deposit by: total number of headpieces needed x final cost per headpiece x 25%. Example: 120 headpieces x $40 x 25% = $1,200. This deposit is used to start ordering supplies ASAP to complete your order in a timely manner. If a deposit is not paid by October 1st, your order will be canceled, as I will no longer have enough time to complete your headpieces before parades.
Float headpieces are completed in the order of which deposits are paid. I try to complete the majority of headpiece orders from May-October. Orders are not generally accepted after October 1st, and when I reach capacity, this form will close. I expect to reach capacity by early summer 2026.
I do not have the ability to store headpieces until Mardi Gras. It is the lieutenant's responsibility to store headpieces once they are complete and distribute to their riders. Please store your headpieces in a temperature controlled environment. Changes in temperature can greatly affect how well the glue holds on your headpieces.
Payment is due in full at the time of delivery. Lieutenants may make payment plan arrangements, but the full balance of headpieces is due upon delivery. I expect summer orders to be delivered before the end of October, but most likely much sooner. Payments can be made in cash, or by check, Zelle, or Venmo. Please note that Venmo is subject to a 2% service fee.
Headpieces should be inspected upon receipt. Lieutenants have 30 days upon receipt to quality/quantity check headpiece orders. After 30 days, Crafty Kat is unable to make any repairs or additions. Changes to design and materials after delivery may result in additional fees. Lieutenants will receive any extra supplies (such as lights) with their order in case there is a need for repairs. Crafty Kat is not responsible for headpiece damages due to improper storage or handling beyond 30 days of receipt. I do my very best to make sure headpieces are affordable, comfortable, and quality, but please remember that every headpiece is handmade by a real person, not a machine! Headpieces may vary just slightly, and while I test all lights prior to installation and quality check every piece, some things are simply out of my control during delivery and storage. I appreciate your understanding and patience! :)
